It’s a very difficult transition from high school to college, for everyone. It’s a change in routine and in schedule. There are a few different sources on campus that are there to help you, especially academics. SASC stands for the Student Academic Support Center, and it is found on the second floor of the commons. This is where you can schedule appointments for tutoring in any subject that you might need help with. They have students that have taken the class that you are in, with the professor you have, so they know exactly how to teach you in a way that will help you excel. They also have writing help, where you can bring a paper you have written, and someone will go through it making corrections, edits, and making sure it’s in the correct format. And they sometimes hold exam review sessions for classes. The SAC stands for Student Access Center, and you can find this department, in the little white building on the corner, between the forum and the commons that you always walk by and wonder what’s in there. This is where students can meet with someone and get accommodations that they may have had in high school, like extra time on exams, taking exams in a separate location, or maybe having a script in a class, or a smartpen. There are many accommodations that the school has to offer, and for people, that may not have had in high school. Now, both of these acronyms are very similar, and always flip-flopped and confused, so don’t be embarrassed if you say one and mean the other, upperclassmen still do it too.
