I believe that the fear of missing out is a real thing, teenagers are getting depressed, but not telling it to anyone. Though there is a lot of information and statistics, there are still people that think that technology really has no connection to mental health. They don’t think that keeping too up to date with social media will lead to depression, they don’t think that the more technology we use will lead to less social interactions. They don’t see any issue with the way we are all moving forward with technology. There is also a number of people that don’t think that FOMO is real. Is the fear of missing out just a myth? Is it all in our heads? Or do people do it to themselves? I have witnessed people doing it to themselves, and then getting angry and blaming other people for their anger. No matter how many statistics we have, how much proof we can gather, people will still disagree with the facts. Parents are a big component of this situation. They can be completely oblivious to the fact that all your friends are out together without you. They can be completely oblivious that you are sitting alone in your room questioning what is wrong with you and why they didn’t want to be with you. This is why parents don’t believe it because they don’t think their kids go through it because they do so well at hiding it.
