I believe that in Anderson’s article In Defence of Distraction,  he is both right and wrong. I agree with the fact he is saying that technology is really taking over our world. I do think that we are 100% addicted and that screens are just like drugs and are addicting but I don’t think that we are the dumbest generation or we aren’t going to achieve anything with how addicted to technology we are. I believe that we are one of the smartest generations, we know how to use this technology to help people, we know how to use it to achieve things people once thought was impossible. We have grown up with it, so we know how to use it the right way, and use it the wrong way. Using it the wrong way, meaning that people that get addicted to video games, or their smartphones are all using technology the wrong way, the people that are using it to save peoples lives or to better our world are using it the right way. In the article, Gallagher says that “once you understand how attention works and how you can make the most productive use of it, if you can continue to just jump in the air every time your phone rings or pounce on those buttons every time you get an instant message, that’s not the machines fault. That’s your fault” (Anderson pg 7). She is saying that once you understand how your attention, work ethic and focus works, you can tell whats distractions for you. You know how to stop your self from getting distracted. Gallagher also says that its really not the machines fault that you’re excited whenever you hear that little ding. He and Anderson both seem to agree that technology is making the largest effect on us, but it may not all be out faults.

Interesting stance. I think most people believe that technology IS making us dumber, however you point out that our generation is the most familiar with new technology and therefore can utilize it the most effectively and positively. Good piece!

I like how you talked about technology in our society today. I think that was a clever way to bring in your thoughts on Anderson’s stance.
